The detail of the Dore engravings can be fully appreciated only by expanding them to their original dimensions. The images in the printed edition are full page—as first displayed here they have been reduced to one-fourth of the original size. This "thumbnail" size severely deteriorates all of the illustrations. A click on any of the images will bring out much unsuspected detail.
